Oh So Good: Laurent Pinabel

 

Laurent Pinabel, a Montreal-based designer and illustrator, is someone I first learned about after picking up a copy of L’Étiquette #2 at the Cask Days Beer Festival here in Toronto. The festival showcases some artists as well as many beers, and I love ducking away from the crowds for a bit to check out the talent and give my liver a brief break.
L’Étiquette is a large-format graphic journal inspired by beer (perhaps you are, too?) There are tons of fantastic illustrators and comic artists featured in the journal, but it was Pinabel’s work which stood out to me right away.

He’s known for his graphic design—in particular his poster design—and is also thriving as an illustrator. His bold, mostly black and white graphic style is simple, textured and strong. His work can be silly and serious… either way it’s pretty damn gorgeous.
